The University of Hyderabad (UoH) revoked its decision to  shut down all hostels during summer vacation, as it faced a severe water crisis, after students protested the decision.

More than 2,800 students pursuing Integrated Masters and Post-Graduate courses will have to move out. PhD students are an exception as they do research throughout the year, it was earlier reported.

A report in The New Indian Express adds:

Since the entire university is surviving on water tankers and cans, the university chief warden issued an order directing students to vacate and clarifying that no student, barring researchers and M Tech, MPhil students, would be allowed to stay at hostels during the vacation .There were also plans to take up repair works at hostels when all the integrated and PG students vacate the hostels. However, students opposed the move arguing that many students were preparing for examinations such as JRF and interviews.

“One hostel each for men and women students would function. We are expecting around 500 students to stay back during summer vacation,” hostel authorities told the newspaper.
