Union HRD Minister Javadekar tweets India map without Telangana, outrage ensues

Written by : TNM Staff

Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar received flak on Thursday after he tweeted a picture of India as it stood before 2014.

The Minister had taken to Twitter, to talk about a national level hackathon.

"36 hrs of non-stop coding across 26 cities to develop innovative solutions for 598 problems posed by 29 ministries.#SmartIndiaHackathon2017,"(sic) he tweeted.

However, people soon realised that the map showed the combined state of Andhra Pradesh as it stood, before Telangana was bifurcated from it.

"Why is Telangana not shown as a separate state in the map?" one user asked, while another said, "Telangana demands you delete the tweet and tweet with correct picture of India."

"Why south Indian states are always ignored by some or the other reason. Where is my state Telangana in the map. Why such discrimination?" (sic) a user asked.

"It is high time Telangana State was clearly marked on all maps of India," another user declared.

As of Friday morning, 24 hours after the tweet was put up, no clarification was made and the tweet was not deleted.
