A tribal student, M Sriramulu from the German studies department at the English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu) in Hyderabad has approached the central government for help alleging discrimination against him.

Sriramulu accused the varsity of caste discrimination, stating that the university has held back his degree certificate.

He took admission for a five-year course in German at EFLU in 2010. After two years he fell ill and failed in eight subjects in 2013.

In representations submitted to President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ministry of human resource development, ministry of tribal affairs and national human rights commission, he said that the University failed him despite knowing his health issues in 2013.

He told Times of India:

“I appeared for the supplementary exam. Despite clearing the exam with a score of 68 per cent, the university kept my original academic documents with them. Even my room which has other supporting documents such as my passport, driving licence, among other things, remains locked,” said Sriramulu.

Due to this, he is unable to pursure his PhD, he said.

However, the University has denied all the allegations of Sriramulu and also said that he had been raising baseless allegations against the VC for the past three years.

Eflu Proctor Prof. Prakash Kona said that he was provided remedial classes and the University did everything but he was unable to clear subjects to get the required credits.
