The Ghatkesar police under the Rachakonda Commissionerate arrested 30-year-old YouTuber Bhanuchander, known as ‘Anchor Chandu’, on Wednesday, December 18, for organizing a reckless social media stunt that disrupted traffic and endangered lives on Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR).
The incident unfolded when Chandu posted a video online announcing a “Money Hunting Challenge.” In the video, he dropped a bundle of Rs 20,000 cash into the bushes near Exit 9 of the ORR, encouraging his followers to retrieve it. The challenge quickly gained traction online, drawing large crowds to the area and causing traffic chaos as people stopped their vehicles to search for the money.
The sudden influx of people posed serious risks to motorists on the busy expressway where the speed limit is 80 kmph, prompting authorities to intervene.
The YouTuber, a resident of Balanagar, Hyderabad, has been taken into police custody for questioning. He has been booked under sections 125 (acts endangering life) and 292 (public nuisance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Rachakonda police have also heightened security measures near Exit 9 of the ORR, ensuring no vehicles stop in the vicinity in search of the money.
