Three people were injured in Secunderabad on Satturday, after a 73-year-old retired civil engineer rammed his car into pedestrians on SP Road.

According to a report in the Times of India, the driver, K Srinivas Rao, rammed his car into three bikes after he pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.

TOI reported that one of the injured fell unconscious, while another was rushed to the hospital after being seriously injured. The third person was treated for minor injuries.

“The car which was coming slowly after taking a turn at the junction suddenly sped towards us. The car hit three people and some bikes. It then hit the footpath and chain bandi before halting,” an eyewitness told Deccan Chronicle.

The DC report adds that the police confiscated the car and detained the driver, before adding that they were investigating if he was fit enough to drive and if his attention got diverted due to old age.

A case has been registered under two sections of the IPC that deal with causing grievous injuries and rash driving.
