Telangana’s draft electoral rolls were published on Monday, August 17, following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) enumeration exercise carried out by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
It was earlier announced that over 73.39 lakh voters were removed in the draft rolls as they were categorised as absent, shifted, dead, or duplicate, and their enumeration forms were uncollectible. This ASDDO category comprised 21.7% of the state’s 3.38 crore voters.
Of the remaining 2.64 crore voters who made it to the draft list, 92 lakh people (or 35% of the draft roll) are set to receive notices due to anomalies of which there are 11 types, according to Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudarshan Reddy.
“A total of 2.64 crore people are in these draft rolls, of which 60 lakh have been identified as anomalies because of mistakes in their names etc. in matching with the 2002 SIR details. Another 32 lakh were identified who were not mapped as they haven’t filled in the 2002 details. These 92 lakh people will be given notices through the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Booth Level Officers (BLOs),” Sudarshan Reddy told the media.
He said that those who receive notices will have to give a reply through the BLOs, BLO supervisors or Assistant EROs (AEROs), who will help them clarify the errors and get them removed from the anomalies list.
Voters will be able to file claims and objections between August 17 and September 16. The process of serving notices and disposing of claims and objections will continue until October 15.
The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on October 19.
Of the 73.39 lakh forms that were not collected, 9.22 lakh voters have been marked as dead, 11.25 lakh were classified as absent or untraceable, 45.18 lakh voters were found to have permanently shifted, while 6.70 lakh were marked as already enrolled or duplicate entries.
The CEO’s office also placed 1.02 lakh voters under the “others” category.
