A Telangana police constable, K Anil, was suspended for allegedly posting misogynistic, sexually abusive remarks on social media against Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president and former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha.

Cyberabad Commissioner of Police M Ramesh issued the suspension order against Anil, an Armed Reserve (AR) police constable, on September 2.

Earlier the same day, a complaint was submitted to Telangana Director General of Police (DGP), seeking criminal and departmental action against Anil for his comments on Kavitha on a social media post.

The complaint, submitted by TRS members, alleged that the constable circulated the objectionable remarks on Facebook, X and other social media platforms.

Seeking registration of an FIR, the complainant invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those relating to insulting the modesty of a woman, sexual harassment and criminal defamation, besides applicable provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Terming the conduct particularly serious as the accused is a serving police official, the petition described it as “conduct unbecoming of a member of the police force” and sought immediate departmental action. It also requested suspension pending inquiry and removal or dismissal from service if the allegations are proved.

The complaint also sought preservation of digital evidence, including screenshots, URLs, account details and server records, and forensic examination of devices used to publish the content.
