A man who returned from Dubai a week ago slit his wife's throat in front of their three children on Tuesday and later tried to commit suicide in Rajanna Sircilla district of Telangana.

According to the police, the couple and their children, aged between two and four, were travelling in an auto-rickshaw in Vemulawada town when B. Ravi slit his 32-year-old wife Vasantha's throat with a knife.

He then proceeded to throw his wife out of the moving vehicle, in a final bid to killer her. As this happened in broad daylight, locals immediately intervened, and tried to nab Ravi.

Thereafter, he tried to cut his own throat but survived. He was admitted to a local hospital in a critical condition. A case has been registered.

According to reports, he was also planning to kill his children, but locals managed to stop him.

The family was going to Vasantha's parental house on Bathukamma flower festival.

The New Indian Express quoted the police saying that the 30-year-old man had moved to Kuwait in search of a job 18 months ago, but returned recently, before he began doubting that his wife had an illicit relationship, even though she denied it.

This comes just a day after a husband allegedly killed his wife for not clearing the MBBS entrance exam in Hyderabad.

According to LB Nagar Assistant Commissioner of Police Venu Gopal Rao, the victim, 21 year-old Harika, had a fight and argument with her husband, Rishi, earlier in the day related to her poor performance in the recently held medical test.

“After the fight, Rishi left the home at around 4 pm. He came back after 7 pm and noticed that she was charred to death. Based on the complaint of the victim’s parents, we have arrested him,” the police official told TNM.

Rishi has claimed that Harika committed suicide, and he returned home to find her charred body. However, the police doubt his version of events.
