Chittari Haribabu, a 26-year-old man accused of killing his wife Vaishnavi when she was four months pregnant, was hacked to death on a busy street in Telangana’s Nizamabad, exactly six months after her death. Haribabu was accused of stabbing 20-year-old Vaishnavi to death on March 17, amid ongoing dowry harassment.

Hours after the murder, Vaishnavi’s brother Santhosh put out a video confessing to killing Haribabu. He said he was going to surrender to the police, and sought support from the public.

On September 17, Haribabu was stabbed to death at the Rajarajendra Chowrasta in Nizamabad. According to the police, around 5 pm, a group of three to four men arrived in a car. CCTV footage of the murder showed one man getting out of the vehicle, approaching Haribabu and hacking him with a knife.

Nizamabad Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) B Prakash said the assailant attacked Haribabu in the head and neck with a knife used to cut coconuts, according to The Times of India. He died on the spot. His body was shifted to the Nizamabad Government General Hospital for post-mortem.

Vaishnavi used to make YouTube videos on her channel Vaishu Amma along with Haribabu. They had been in a relationship and had been married for 10 months, when Haribabu allegedly killed Vaishnavi at their residence in Madhapur village of Korutla mandal in Jagtial district. Haribabu’s mother and two brothers were also booked for dowry harassment after her death.

Haribabu, who was arrested after Vaishnavi’s death, was reportedly released on bail in July.
