The Telangana High Court on Friday, July 25, appointed former judge P Naveen Rao as a one-man committee to investigate the alleged financial irregularities in the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).
The appointment was made by Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka, while hearing a petition filed by the Safilguda Cricket Club. In his writ petition, the Club’s president, Chilumula Sanjeev Reddy, challenged the second Annual General Body meeting of the Association, alleging violation of its bye-laws.
The writ petition comes amid allegations of financial irregularities and internal oversight in the HCA. Justice Naveen Rao is already supervising the conduct of HCA League matches for the 2025–2026 season. With this order, his role has been expanded to cover all administrative and operational activities of the Association, similar to the earlier single-member committee headed by retired judge, Justice L Nageswara Rao.
Earlier this year, the HCA was pulled up by the High Court where Justice CV Bhaskar Reddy instructed the cricket body “not to take any administrative or policy decisions involving financial matters except for payment of salaries to its employees and other day-to-day expenses of the Association.”
In March 2025, the Enforcement Directorate had attached immovable property worth Rs 51.29 lakh under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in a case of misappropriation of funds by the HCA. The office bearers of the HCA were accused of misappropriating funds meant for purchase of cricket balls, chairs and gymnasium equipment.
