Telangana govt considers ban on all porn sites

Written by : TNM

The News Minute | October 7, 2014 | 09:05 am ISTWatching porn in Telangana could soon become a thing of the past after the state government has considered blocking all such adult sites depicting women as sexual objects in an attempt to reduce crime against them. Information Technology officials have been asked to block about 1,350 such sites which could effectively block all adult content available online, said The Times of India. However, the decision cannot be implemented without the approval of the Union home ministry and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The move to ban such sites has been taken up on the recommendations of the ‘Committee on Issues Relating to Safety and Security of Women and Girls’ which said that porn sites must be blocked as ‘they lead to crimes against women’, said the report. However, people dealing with women’s rights believed that more emphasis should be given to curbing online harassment as porn sites do not necessarily instigate rape and molestation, said the report.
