Even as the state stares at a severe heatwave and a drought-like condition, the Telangana government is going ahead with its plans to build new residences/offices for all its legislators in their constituency headquarters, at the cost of Rs 1 crore each.

This also comes a month after all MLAs in the state got a salary hike from Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 2.75 lakh a month.

The Times of India reported:

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, a couple of months ago, announced that each MLA should have an office-cum-residence to meet people and hold meetings with officials...if all goes well, the Telangana legislators may well ring in 2017 in their new residence-cum-offices,which are likely to be ready in nine months.

The chief minister is also building a new office for himself, which will put the state exchequer behind by Rs 30 crore.

"Tenders will be called in a week and finalised in a month. The buildings will be completed in nine months from the date of awarding contract," a senior engineering official of the R&B department told TOI.
