A day after his marriage in Hyderabad, a Dalit man’s family home in Telangana’s Jogulamba Gadwal district was partially demolished, allegedly by the relatives of his wife, on Thursday, September 10.
Rangamuni, a 22-year-old Dalit (Madiga) man, married Eeneshwari, a woman belonging to the Boya caste, categorised as Backward Class (BC) in Telangana.
According to the complaint registered at Gadwal (Rural) police station by Rangamuni’s uncle Lajaranna, after learning about the marriage, Eeneshwari’s parents and some of her relatives travelled to Hyderabad.
In the meantime, six of Eeneshwari’s male relatives and some others came to Rangamuni’s father Kistanna’s residence and drove a Sonalika tractor into the house, thereby damaging it. Lajaranna also stated in his complaint that Kistanna and his wife were in Hyderabad to meet the newly-wed couple when the demolition took place.
A case was subsequently registered by the Gadwal (rural) police based on Lajaranna’s complaint under Sections 329(4) (punishment for house trespass), 324(5) (offense of mischief causing property damage amounting to one lakh rupees or upwards) read with Section 3(5) (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3(1)(g) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Further investigation is underway.
