Telangana cries foul on AP's decision to raise Polavaram Dam's height

The News Minute | January 3, 2015 | 8:25 am ISTThe Telangana government on Friday decided to take up matters with AP with regard to the construction and the raising of the Polavaram Dam's height by 15 feet.According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, irrigation minister T Harish Rao said that AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu's move was unmindful of the dangers to the Khammam district in Telangana.Harish Rao was quoted as saying that if the dam was raised another 15 feet, what remains of Khammam district could be written off for it would submerge all the tribal villages.Telangana is already in the process of submitting complaints to the Godavari and Krishna River Management boards and claimed that the AP government violated the AP Reorganization Act by sanctioning 1,300 crore for the Life Scheme without prior approval of the river board.Read - AP accuses Telangana of secretly generating power from Srisailam; asks Centre to deploy troops to guard reservoirsTweet
