Reflecting the anger against corrupt police officials, local residents burst crackers outside the Keesara police station under the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate on Thursday, September 17, after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two police officers in a Rs 5 lakh bribery case.
A day earlier, the ACB caught Keesara Station House Officer and Inspector Arkapally Anjaneyulu and Sub-Inspector Dyapa Gnanender Reddy while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. The money was allegedly demanded in exchange for granting station bail to the complainant and his friend and for not harassing them in a case registered at the Keesara police station.
The ACB said the bribe amount was recovered from Gnanender Reddy. Both officers were produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally and remanded in judicial custody. The case is under investigation.
The Keesara case is the latest in a series of ACB traps involving Telangana police personnel this year, with several cases involving alleged demands for money in connection with arrests, bail conditions and police investigations.
In August, an ACB team caught Chandanagar police Sub-Inspector B Balraj and constable B Raghavendra Kumar while they were allegedly accepting a Rs 75,000 bribe in connection with a criminal case. The ACB alleged that the two of them had demanded money for conducting the investigation and filing the chargesheet. It also said Rs 20,000 had allegedly been received earlier by the SI in cash and Rs 10,000 by the constable through UPI, taking the alleged total bribe to Rs 1.05 lakh.
In May, Bowenpally police Sub-Inspector Kiran Nandita and constable B Vijay Kumar were arrested by the ACB for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 30,000 from a person accused in a criminal case. The SI allegedly sought the money to relax his bail conditions and provide police assistance, while the complainant alleged that he was threatened with cancellation of his bail if he did not pay.
In March, two Armed Reserve Sub-Inspectors posted at the Cyber Crime Police Station in LB Nagar, under the Malkajgiri Commissionerate, were arrested for allegedly accepting a Rs 1 lakh bribe. The ACB alleged that Pramod Goud and Jatavath Babu Naik demanded the money from a complainant in a cybercrime case in exchange for issuing a notice instead of arresting him.
In another case in April, Assistant Sub-Inspector Paosala Balaiah of Chaitanyapuri police station was caught by the ACB while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000. The money was allegedly demanded to alter the section in a criminal case and facilitate a compromise before the Lok Adalat.
The cases come against the backdrop of increased ACB action in Telangana. The bureau registered 67 corruption cases between April and June 2026, including 34 trap cases.
