Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Tuesday, September 15, sought the Aga Khan Foundation’s support for the state government’s plans to rejuvenate the Musi river and develop its surrounding areas.
During a meeting with Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, in Hyderabad on September 15, CM Revanth proposed that the Foundation undertake the restoration of the old Osmania General Hospital building and City College, both located along the Musi. The government plans to shift Osmania General Hospital to a new facility at Goshamahal Stadium and preserve the existing structure as a heritage building.
CM Revanth also invited Prince Rahim Aga Khan to the Invest Telangana global summit scheduled for December 7. He proposed cooperation between the Foundation and the State in education, healthcare and tourism.
The Chief Minister highlighted the Aga Khan Foundation’s role in restoring heritage sites in Hyderabad, including the Legislative Council building, and recalled the association of the late Prince Karim Aga Khan IV with the city.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan sought details about the proposed Bharat Future City. CM Revanth said its master plan was being prepared by Singapore-based consultants and that the project would be developed as a net-zero city with a 15,000-acre green zone. He also said several global companies, including Amazon Web Services, had begun establishing operations there.
Chief Minister’s Advisor K Ramakrishna Rao also briefed the Aga Khan about agreements reached with international universities during recent visits to the UK and US, including proposed facilities by London Business School and Harvard University.
