Telangana CM KCR reiterates poll promise: Each Assembly constituency to get 1,400 2BHK houses

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said that 1,400 double bedroom houses would be built in each Assembly constituency, while addressing the collectors at a conference in Hyderabad’s Pragati Bhavan on Monday.

KCR, as the CM is commonly known as, discussed several major issues in the conference.

In 2014, KCR had promised to build 2-bedroom homes for the homeless and those living in thatched houses.

In 2015, KCR granted pattas to 10,300 families, promising to provide 2BHK homes, complete with a common living area, a kitchen and two toilets.

In June that year, KCR had said, "Whatever the cost it is my bounden duty to build these homes for you. It will take a couple of years but we will build these homes for the poor as everyone has the right to a proper home.”

The original plan required over 2.6 lakh houses to be undertaken by the end of March 2017 by the Housing Department, but the tenders present another picture altogether.

According to Hans India, the report in their possession says that only 113.32 crore rupees has been spent while the state government had proposed to spend thousands of crores of rupees for the same. Also, only 27,415 out of 71,893 houses have their tenders confirmed.

Collectors have been asked to identify the beneficiaries with the help of mandal revenue and revenue divisional officers.

The scheme, which is not open to people who already own houses, is going to adopt a lottery method for the selection of the beneficiaries.

It will be separately done for the categories of SC, ST and BC communities. A figure of 10 lakh beneficiaries are expected to be chosen for housing, social security pensions and sheep breeding without political pressure waiving the selection process.

Of the other issues discussed, plans have been formulated to make sheep breeding a major industry and to consider the matter of whether the existing cooperative societies of sheep breeding are sufficient or if new ones have to be set up
