Even as the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi finished the polling for it's student elections, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) is gearing up for it's own elections.

The Times of India reported:

The canvassing, however, is happening in a hushed manner despite there being no restraining order. Movies with ideological undercurrents are being screened and talk shows being held. Faculty members, sources said, have been asking students to vote for their favoured student unions, offering freebies like free trips and food.

“Unofficial campaigning in hostels started a while ago.Party workers gather stu dents in small groups and go about giving motivational talks and quoting examples from the lives of prominent politicians," said Anirudh Dinakar, a material sciences student.

The report adds that many newcomers are being offered outstation trips by various parties.

The security has been stepped up and a few policemen in civil clothes have started doing the rounds on campus.

Last year, after a month-long of intense political activity, the Students Federation of India (SFI), Tribal Students Forum (TSF), Dalit Students Union (DSU) and Telangana Vidhyarthi Vedika (TVV) alliance emerged as the sole winner in the elections for the academic year 2015-16.

Zuhail KP, a PhD student from the department of physics secured 1,603 votes to win the president post.
