After a long battle with a slew of health problems, noted Telangana poet Guda Anjaiah died on Tuesday at his house in Hyderabad.

The Hindu reported:

“Anjanna”, as he was fondly called, was famous for his song “ Ooru manadi ra, ee vada manadi ra ” which was translated into multiple languages. He played a key role in Telangana movement, penning several songs that also found their way into films.

Earlier this month, the ailing poet was hospitalized in Hyderabad after he was suffering from jaundice and his kidneys and liver were infected.

In 2014, senior TRS leader and state irrigation minister Harish Rao met the poet and handed over Rs one lakh from the TRS party fund to meet his immediate expenses.

The state government also promised to bear all his medical expenses.

Condolences are already pouring in for the poet via social media.

The 61-year-old is survived by three daughters.
