In a major political development, Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh on Monday, June 30, announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressing strong displeasure over the party’s reported decision to appoint N Ramachander Rao as the party’s Telangana state president.
Raja Singh, a three-time MLA, known for his hate speeches against Muslims, termed the decision “a shock and disappointment” not just for him but for lakhs of party workers, leaders, and supporters across Telangana.
In his letter addressed to current BJP president G Kishan Reddy, Raja Singh urged the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, national president JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and national general secretary BL Santosh, Raja Singh asking them to reconsider the appointment.
“This decision has come as a shock and disappointment, not just to me, but to lakhs of Karyakartas, leaders, and voters who have stood by the party through every high and low. At a time when BJP stands at the threshold of forming its first government in Telangana, such a choice raises serious doubts about the direction we are heading,” Raja Singh wrote.
Raja Singh alleged that the appointment of Ramachander Rao ignored the contributions and sacrifices of several senior leaders, MLAs, MPs, and dedicated party workers who had been instrumental in strengthening the party in Telangana. He also accused certain individuals of misleading the BJP’s central leadership for personal gain.
“Unfortunately, it appears that some individuals, driven by personal interests, have misled the central leadership and taken decisions by running the show from behind the curtain. This not only undermines the sacrifices of grassroots workers but risks pushing the party into avoidable setbacks,” Raja Singh said.
Stressing that his resignation was not motivated by personal ambition, Raja Singh said, “I have been a dedicated Karyakarta, elected three times in a row with the blessings of the people and support of the party. But today, I find it difficult to stay silent or pretend that all is well. This is not about personal ambition, this letter reflects the pain and frustration of lakhs of loyal BJP Karyakartas and supporters who feel sidelined and unheard.”
He expressed concern that the BJP’s chances of forming its first-ever government in Telangana could be jeopardized under Ramachander Rao’s leadership. “We had the best opportunity in years to bring the BJP to power in Telangana. But that hope is slowly being replaced by disappointment and frustration, not because of the people, but because of the leadership being placed at the helm,” he stated.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the BJP national leadership has chosen Ramachander Rao as the new state president of the Telangana BJP. Rao, a former MLC and a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), belongs to the Brahmin community. Other senior leaders such as Eatala Rajender and D Arvind were also considered for the post, but Rao was elected unopposed, reports said.
Raja Singh said that despite his resignation from the party, he will continue to work for the cause of Hindutva. “While I may be stepping away from the party. I remain fully committed to the ideology of Hindutva and the service of our Dharma and the people of Goshamahal. I will continue to raise my voice and stand with the Hindu community with even greater strength,” he said.
