Heavy rains which lashed Hyderabad throughout Friday saw the city unwillingly welcome a familiar sight, as key roads witnessed waterlogging and inundation, which resulted in massive traffic snarls.
According to data available with the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), between 8:30 am to 6 pm on Friday, Madhapur witnessed the highest rainfall under the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at 38.3 mm.
This was followed by West Maredpally in Secunderabad at 32.3 mm and parts of Moosapet, which received a rainfall of over 28 mm. Other areas in Secunderabad like Malkajgiri (26.8 mm), Kapra (26.3 mm) and Tirumalagiri (25.8 mm) also witnessed rainfall throughout the day.
Predictably, the rains also battered the city's roads, which were already in dire need of maintenance and repairs, further slowing down traffic in arterial stretches.
Parts of Cyberabad witnessed a massive traffic jam in and around Cyber Towers, as well as the road from Mindspace to Biodiversity junction. Waterlogging near the Hyderabad Central University (HCU) saw slow traffic movement from Gachibowli Stadium to Lingampally.
With a key road near Inorbit Mall and Durgam Cheruvu witnessing inundation, the Cyberabad Traffic Police issued an alert suggesting alternate routes.
The condition of the roads and the traffic irked many commuters, who took to social media to vent their frustration.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a two-day alert for the entire state and said that Hyderabad is likely to continue witnessing rainfall.
"Heavy to very heavy rain very likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana," the IMD alert stated.
