Amid the ongoing controversy between actor Allu Arjun and the Telangana government, the Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce (TSFCC) has launched a donation drive to support the family of Revathi, who tragically lost her life in a stampede during the premiere show of Pushpa 2 on December 4.
Revathi, aged 35, died in the incident at Sandhya Theatre while her 9-year-old son, Shri Tej, remains hospitalised and is fighting for his life. Allu Arjun was booked for culpable homicide, and arrested briefly on December 13.
In a statement issued on Monday, December 23, the TSFCC said, “…whatever happened at Sandhya Theatre during the premier show of the movie Pushpa 2 is very unfortunate and it was a sad incident. We the Members of the Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce will stand with the little child who is hospitalised and fighting for his life. As a gesture, we are planning to donate some amount to the family of the child and his deceased mother through our Chamber.”
The TSFCC is encouraging contributions to aid the grieving family and support Shri Tej’s recovery.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recently expressed his anger at the actor saying that he refused to leave the theatre premises despite being informed that a woman had died in the stampede. Allu Arjun refuted the allegations following which the Telangana police released video footage of the events leading to the incident. According to the police, though they informed the actor about Revathi’s death, he insisted on leaving the theatre only after the film concluded.
Strongly criticising Allu Arjun’s alleged irresponsible actions, the CM also slammed the film industry who sided with Allu Arjun instead of showing sympathy with the deceased woman and the injured child.
He also announced that special shows will no longer be permitted in Telangana owing to safety concerns.
