NIMS hospital staff protest over denial of leave on International Women’s Day

Written by : Anusha Puppala

On the occasion of International Women's Day, women staff of NIMS hospital protested as the hospital management did not give them a holiday, which they are entitled to, by a government notification.

According to GO 433 released by the state government in 2010, all women employees in the state should get a holiday every year on women's day.

Despite the government order, women employees at NIMS had to come for work on Tuesday, which led them to protest against the hospital management.

Yielding to the protestors demands, the hospital management gave offs to some of the women employees while some others got compensatory offs for the day.

The hospital management also decided to follow other government hospitals when it comes to leaves. Taking a cue from Gandhi hospital and Osmania hospital which gave offs to a few and comp offs to others, even NIMS decided to give a holiday to their women employees today.

Bharthi (name change on request) told The News Minute,

"In 2010, the government released a GO 433 that women employees will get off on every women's day but today we didn't get an off. So we decided to conduct a silent protest at the hospital premises but thanks to NIMS administration, as soon as they observed our protest, they promised us to give offs or at least comp offs for today".

She added, “After the protest, NIMS decided to follow Gandhi hospital and Osmania hospital rules. So whatever they follow, accordingly we are getting offs today. We are glad that our protest worked out.”

NIMS hospital administration told The News Minute, "Though the government had released a GO but there is a lot of confusion in the GO 433 as it was not clearly mentioned whether the holiday should be given to government employees or private ones. But when we saw the protest by women employees, we agreed to follow other government hospitals. We gave offs to a few and comp offs to others accordingly."
