Nayeem case: SIT investigates role of police officer seen in video clip with slain gangster

The Telangana police are investigating reports that one of the police officers named by witnesses in cases relating to the land deals made by slain gangster Nayeemuddin was also seen in a video clip with him.

Quoting police sources, The Hindu reports that the video clip first surfaced during the searches at Nayeem’s house in Alkapuri of Narsingi after he was killed in an exchange of fire with police.

The report adds:

While statements of some witnesses recorded by the police brought to the fore for the first time names of police officers allegedly linked to Nayeem’s property transactions, speculation was rife on the possible action to be taken against them.

“In Nayeem’s case, the question is, will the government at least transfer the police officers named by the witnesses,” a police officer told the newspaper.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the SIT, which is probing the case, to submit a status report within three weeks.

The court gave its order while hearing a petition filed by CPI leader K Narayana, who has demanded a CBI probe into the case.

The Times of India reported:

Appearing for the petitioner, senior counsel S Satyam Reddy told the court that several senior IPS officers and politicians had links with Nayeem and derived undue benefits from him. Stating that not much could be expected from the probe as an officer, who is junior to bigwigs involved in the case, the counsel urged the bench to hand over the probe to CBI. Moreover, Nayeem had accumulated assets in six states, Telangana, AP , Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Goa, he said, and added that only CBI has got the jurisdiction to look into such scams.

Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem alias Balanna (45), wanted in several cases including the murder of an IPS officer, was killed in an alleged encounter with police in Shadnagar town of Mahabubnagar district of the state on August 8.
