The Hyderabad police on Friday arrested a 28-year-old man from West Bengal, who was also an associate of alleged Harkatul-Jihadi Al-Islami (HuJI) operative Mohammed Nasir when the former came to meet Nasir at Cherlapally jail in the city.

The police claimed that the two were planning to start a madarasa to allegedly impart jihadi training. 

While Alim-ul-Islam Mandal is a labourer who hails from Dakshin Dinajpur, Nasir is a Pakistan national with alleged links to HuJI and Indian Mujahideen, who has been accused of facilitating illegal immigration from Bangladesh and Myanmar.

"Alim ul Islam  came to Hyderabad to meet Nasir for charting out further plans," additional commissioner of police (crime) Swati Lakra told Times of India.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Hyderabad Police dealing with illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar was deputed to the Cherlapally jail at regular intervals during 'mulaqats' (meetings), to keep a close watch.

According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, Nasir and Mandal first met at a blanket factory in Panipat and along with some others, had decided to start a madrasa to impart jihadi training.

The police stated that Nasir had admitted to the allegations of planning to open a madrasa, during interrogation.

Earlier, along with Nasir, two Bangladeshis, one Myanmar national and two local agents were also arrested in the case.
