Jolt to Telangana TDP as Veerender Goud quits party, may join BJP

Written by : TNM Staff

Even as the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is trying to revive its fortunes in Telangana, it received a blow on Monday as the party's Telugu Yuvatha President T Veerender Goud resigned from his post.

In his resignation letter, Goud claimed that the TDP had deviated from its ideology and therefore, he could not continue working for the party. Reports suggest that he may meet with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah in New Delhi soon.

The son of senior TDP leader and former state minister T Devender Goud, T Veerender Goud had contested and lost from the Uppal Assembly constituency in the polls held in Telangana in December last year.

After making inroads in the Lok Sabha polls held earlier this year, by winning four seats in Telangana, the BJP is projecting itself as an alternative to the TRS. For this, it has been poaching leaders from the TDP and the Congress.

It was recently reported that the BJP may even rope in actor and former MP Vijayashanthi.

Speaking to TNM earlier this week, BJP spokesperson Krishna Saagar Rao had said, “There is a possibility of Vijayashanthi joining our party. The date and time are yet to be finalised.”

At the time, Rao added that several Congress leaders, too, are in touch with them to join the party. “Their names cannot be disclosed but there are many leaders in touch with us.”

While Munugode Congress MLA Komati Rajagopal Reddy had openly expressed his wish to quit the Congress and to join the BJP earlier, other names doing the rounds include former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and former union minister Sarvey Satyanarayana.
