A man who was allegedly harassing a female inspector with the Hyderabad police, was nabbed from Indore in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.

The officer, was identified as Lakshmi Madhavi, a station house inspector (SHO) of the women's police station in Ghansi Bazar in Hyderabad.

Last week, she filed a complaint with the Central Crime Station (CCS) police, alleging that an identified person repeatedly sent her text messages with objectionable content, and made obscene comments after calling her over the phone.

Even after she informed the accused that she was a police officer, he allegedly continued to harass her, and she filed a complaint.

Based on her complaint,  the CCS  police had registered a case under sections 354 (outraging the modesty) 506(intimidation), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Following this, the police traced the accused’s location by analysing the call records of the phone number, from which the officer was being harassed, TOI reported.

Police suspect that the accused has a history of abusing several other women over the phone, and may also be an alcoholic, DC reported.

Speaking to TOI, CCS DCP Avinash Mohanthy said, “The accused used to make random calls whenever he was drunk. Randomly, he used to pick up some telephone number on the internet and then call. In the case of Lakshmi Madhavi too, the accused called while he was drunk.'

Police were also scanning the accused’s phone to list the people he had harassed.

In a similar incident last month, the Rachakonda police in Telangana arrested a 24-year-old man from Warangal for allegedly harassing a woman constable by sending her abusive messages, and uploading her contact number on a porn website.
