A labourer working at the National Security Guard's (NSG) training centre in Hyderabad died on Sunday, when he was fishing with his colleagues at a nearby lake, after a mysterious explosion.

The victim, Nandulal Patel of Bilaspur in Chattisgarh was working as private construction labourer at the NSG's training centre in Ibrahimpatnam.

According to reports, Nandula went to Tattikhana lake to fish, with his four of his colleagues, when he reportedly stepped on some explosive material.

The victim suffered injuries to his left foot, private parts, abdomen and died on the spot, while his colleagues standing close to him, suffered no injuries.

Soon after the incident Ibrahimpatnam police rushed to the spot with forensic specialists. However, they could not find any explosive materials.

"We suspect that some locals might have planted explosives on the lake bed to kill wild boars. Also, a check dam was built near the blast spot with boulders during the rainy season to prevent bund breach. There is possibility of detonators being left there after the construction and the victim might have accidentally stepped on the leftover detonators, triggering a blast," Ibrahimpatnam assistant commissioner of police (ACP) S Malla Reddy told Times of India.

A similar incident happened last year, when four people including a woman suffered injuries after two low-intensity blasts occurred in Ibrahimpatnam on two consecutive days. While one blast was said to be due to an LPG cylinder, the police suspected that the second one could've died after a man stepped on a gelatin stick in the mud.

At the time, the NSG's bomb squad visited the area to collect samples from both the blast sites.

In December 2011, a regional hub of National Security Guard was inaugrated on 22 acres of land at Tirmulghery in Secunderabad, at  a cost of Rs.37.96 crore, following which another facility was opened at Ibrahimpatnam
