The Jawaharnagar police in Hyderabad were in for a shock on Thursday evening after a man walked into the police station with blood-stained clothes and surrendered, claiming to have killed his wife.

The accused identified as Chakrapani, was a software engineer and worked at Hi-Tec City. He stabbed his wife Madhavi (34), 15 times on the neck at their residence at Ayyappa colony in Dammaiguda after a heated argument.

The couple got married 10 years ago, but due to frequent quarrels between them, Madhavi, along with her two children had been staying with her mother at Jawaharnagar for the past few days.

It was reported that on Thursday, Chakrapani, under the influence of alcohol went to the Jawaharnagar house and demanded that Madhavi return to their Dammaiguda residence with the children to settle the issue.

Seeing her husband drunk, Madhavi decided to return with her husband, but left the children at her mother's house.

"After they reached home, they had an argument again. In a fit of rage, Chakrapani stabbed her nearly 15 times on the neck. We have taken him into custody," Jawaharnagar CI A Ashok Kumar told TOI.

After he surrendered, the police rushed to the scene and recovered a kitchen knife and other forensic evidence.

A case was registered under section 302 of the IPC for murder.
