Hyderabad Police on Friday arrested a 42-year-old Oman national for attempting to marry a 16-year-old girl, who is distantly related to him.
Fiaz Zuma was arrested by Chandrayangutta police for allegedly trying to marry a 16-year-old minor in Hyderabad.
Police were tipped off about the wedding and raided the venue. Police said that the wedding was not likely to be a contract marriage, as they had found no evidence of it until then.
He said that police arrested Fiaz Zuma and the Qazi Habeeb Ali who was performing the ceremony. The father of the girl is also reportedly an Oman national.
A case has been registered under section IPC 420, 511(Prevention of Child marriage act) in connection with the attempt to marry a minor girl.
