Hyderabad, now get through airport queues faster thanks to Express Security Check

Written by : TNM Staff

Aimed at easing check-in hassles, Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has become the first in the country to offer Express Security Check for passengers carrying only hand luggage.

The Express Security Check also called as ‘Pre-embarkation Security Check’ was introduced on Friday.

The pre-embarkation security check will be provided for domestic passengers right at the terminal's entry gate.

Under the new arrangement, domestic passengers with only hand baggage do not need to wait with the other passengers in long queues.

After printing their boarding passes from the newly installed 'self-service kiosks' located at the departures, domestic passengers can enter the Express Security Check lane without getting into the check-in area, The Times of India reported.

The new facility is expected to help over 40% of total domestic passengers, mostly business and corporate travellers, with hand-baggage during peak hours, reducing the check-in area congestion and also benefiting airlines to improve their on-time performance (OTP), reported The Economic Times

At present, the Hyderabad Airport handles over 18,000 domestic departure passengers on a daily basis, of which close to 40% travel without any checked-in baggage.

During 2016-17 financial year, the airport handled 15.24 million passengers and witnessed a growth of 22% in passenger traffic and 23% growth in air traffic movement over previous year.

At present, 16 foreign and three Indian carriers connect Hyderabad with 18 international destinations, while 10 domestic carriers connect the city with 33 domestic destinations, ET reported.
