Tension prevailed in Hyderabad’s Madannapet area on Sunday, September 20, over allegations that meat waste was thrown near a spot in a housing society where free food distribution was organised during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
An FIR has been registered under sections related to promoting enmity and malicious acts following a complaint by a resident identified as Pilli Prasad. The incident flared up with the BJP leaders claiming that beef was thrown to provoke the Hindu religious sentiments. The BJP members and Hindu organisations staged protests at the Chanchalguda cross roads, seeking action against those responsible.
Three persons including two women have since been arrested, according to reports.
According to FIR, Pilli Prasad, a resident of the 2BHK Dignity Society in Madannapet, a free food distribution programme was organised near the Ganesh pandal as part of the Ganesh festivities in the society. At around 3 pm, while the devotees were having lunch, a resident identified as Mohammed Imran Qureshi, who was living on the 7th floor, allegedly threw meat waste near the food distribution point.
Pilli Prasad claimed that the said act was “committed deliberately and with an intention to disturb the religious harmony and create tension and conflict” among the residents.
Subsequently, an FIR was registered under sections 196 (2) (promoting enmity) and 299 (deliberate and malicious acts) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The police have sent the meat waste to the forensics department to establish if the discarded meat was beef, reports said.
