In a strange twist to the case of Hyderabad girl Poornima Sai, who had left home on June 7, she has reportedly refused to return, after she was traced to a children’s home in Mumbai.
The Class 10 student had left home and told her parents that she was going to school in Nizampet, but did not return. Her parents later filed a missing complaint at the Bachupally police station.
According to reports, a special team of the Hyderabad police, reached Mumbai on Monday morning along with Poornima’s parents, and approached the Bhoiwada police to receive her.
However, Poornima refused to go back to her parents.
"As per her statement to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Mumbai, she said that she had a dream, where her parents died. She said that the only way her parents would remain unharmed, was if she did not see their face for one year. She said that this was the main reason that she left her house," Bachupally inspector K Bala Krishna Reddy told TNM.
However, a lot of questions remain unanswered, as a section of the media reported that she ran away due to parental pressure, while other reports suggested that the girl went to Mumbai to fulfil her acting dreams.
“Two or three days after Poornima went missing, government railway police of Dadar railway station found her on the platform and shifted her to Bal Sudhar Gruh as she gave false identity details. Poornima told the cops that her name was Anika Shree and she had come from Sai Shree Ashram in Hyderabad,“ Kukatpally ACP N Bhujanga Rao had said earlier.
The girl will now be brought to Hyderabad, where Telangana's CWC will look into the matter, and take a final decision on the girl's custody.
After she was reported missing last month, more than 30 cops from various units of Cyberabad commissionerate fanned out and started extensive searches in Telangana, AP, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
The police said that Poornima mainly used WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.
Before she left, she deactivated all her social media accounts and deleted WhatsApp history, along with call logs on her phone.
