The Hyderabad cybercrime police on Tuesday arrested a man for making threat calls to BJP leader and Minister of State for Home, Kishan Reddy. The accused was identified as Shaikh Ismail, a native of Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district.

According to reports, a complaint was filed by Kishan Reddy on June 12, alleging that he received two threat calls on his mobile on May 20 from an unknown person. Based on the complaint, the Hyderabad police registered a case under relevant sections of the IT Act and IPC. A probe was conducted after which the caller was arrested for his “involvement” in making threatening calls to the minister, a press release from the police stated.

After returning to India, he made anonymous threat calls to the minister using an international SIM. The cops also said Ismail was active on social media and followed Telugu political leaders and news on these platforms.

The cybercrime police filed a case against Ismail under IPC sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) and Section 66D of IT Act (Punishment for cheating by impersonation by using computer resource), and the accused has been sent to judicial custody.

Kishan Reddy, a BJP leader from Telangana, had won the MP seat from Secunderabad constituency in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
