A 26-year-old woman named Hema Vajjiparthi was killed after a state transport bus allegedly crashed into a two-wheeler. Hema had hailed a bike taxi ride from Banjara Hills and was passing through Srinagar Colony when the accident happened on September 12, Saturday.
Panjagutta police booked the driver, Sheik Anwar, and reportedly arrested him on the same day. He was booked under sections 106(1) (causing death by a rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide) and 125(a) (act endangering life of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 184 (driving dangerously) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to the police complaint lodged by the bike taxi driver Hemachala Patro (48), who drives for ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Rapido, he received a booking from Hema around 3 pm on September 12 to pick her up from BNR Colony, Venkat Nagar, Banjara Hills. Hema was a native of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh and was working as a customer relationship executive at a car showroom in Banjara Hills, according to reports.
Hemachala said he picked up Hema on his red-coloured Glamour bike and was going towards the drop location through Srinagar Colony. Around 3.30 pm, when they were near My Home Madhuban Apartments, an electric bus allegedly approached from behind at a very high speed and hit his bike from the rear. Hemachala alleged that the driver, Sheik Anwar, was driving in a rash and negligent manner.
Hemachala said that both he and Hema fell onto the road, and the bus ran over her head, killing her on the spot. Hemachala was shifted to Meditech Hospital in Panjagutta to treat his injuries. His complaint alleged that the accused was driving the bus at a very high speed and in a rash and negligent manner, thereby causing the death of Hema and injuring him.
