On April 10, a minor girl was reportedly assaulted by two female employees of a daycare centre and primary school in Hyderabad's Madhapur area. The incident took place on the premises of the posh institute, where the three-year-old was studying. The police suspect that a sharp object had been inserted into the child's private parts, which left her in pain.

The alleged assault left the minor sick and traumatised, following which her parents rushed her to a hospital. She was later discharged. The girl told her parents that an old woman, a staff member had hurt her. The minor's parents, reported to be software engineers, also approached child rights activist Achyuta Rao of the Balala Hakkula Sangham.   

“We have received a complaint from the mother of the child. The girl also gave her statement about the sexual abuse during the inquiry. She was immediately sent for medical examination,” a senior police official from the Cyberabad police was quoted as saying. The minor also received counselling.

However, soon, more horrifying details emerged. The police and doctors suspect that stones, sticks or other such sharp objects were inserted into the minor's private parts. The two accused in the case, Narsamma and Parveena, are still absconding.

Meanwhile, the Balala Hakkula Sangham demanded that the school be shut down immediately, for failing to provide safety to the children. The activist also demanded that the police must identify and arrest the accused in the case immediately. 

A case has been registered under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Earlier this month, a survey said that as many as 92 incidents of child sexual abuse had been reported in the city in the last three months between January and March, across the jurisdiction of all three Police Commissionerates — Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda. 

To tackle violence against women and also children, SHE teams were instituted first by the Hyderabad police in 2014. Bharosa, an integrated support centre for women and children, was also established by the city police in 2016, with a child-friendly court on its premises to hear crimes of sexual violence against minors.
