A 41-year-old man residing in Vengal Rao Nagar in SR Nagar, Hyderabad, succumbed after allegedly being administered a wrong injection by a medical shop owner. The incident took place on Friday. Following a complaint, police have arrested the accused.

According to SR Nagar police, on Wednesday, Sanjay, a daily wage labourer who was a native of Odisha, was suffering from fever and went to a clinic near his residence. However, in the absence of a doctor, the medical shop owner of Om Sai Medicals, Naveen, administered him with voveran injection, which is usually a painkiller to treat migraine, arthritis etc. Police said that the clinic and the medical shop were attached in the same building.

“The next day, there was a huge swelling on the victim’s thighs and his health deteriorated further. The victim again visited the hospital. Seeing his health worsen further, Naveen took him to a private hospital for advanced healthcare. However, his health condition remained the same,” said SR Nagar SHO Murali Krishna.

The SHO added, “Sanjay was later shifted to another hospital on Friday, where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.”

Following a complaint from Sanjay’s employer about the incident, police arrested Naveen for administering medicines without any medical qualifications. Naveen was charged under section 304 (II) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of Indian Penal Code.

“Whether he(Naveen) administered the wrong injection or not is irrelevant, he was not qualified to carry out such medical experiments. We are waiting for the autopsy report. The accused has confessed to the crime, we will produce him before the court tomorrow,” the SHO said.
