HRD survey reveals that Telangana, AP have highest adult illiteracy in south India

A Ministry of Human Resource Development survey has found that adults of undivided Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are the most illiterate in south India.According to a report in the Times of India, in Telangana, around 82.40 lakh illiterates have been identified across 443 mandals. The report adds that the government has failed to implement the Saakshar Bharat Programme, which promotes adult education, in a proper manner. Both the states plan to improve the literacy rate by 2017 but the alarming dropout rates in rural areas might make it harder for the two states to achieve their target.Read the full report here .Tweet Follow @thenewsminute
