The News Minute | November 17, 2014 | 10:15 am ISTThe Telangana government on Sunday declared that it had provided new bullet proof cars to the cabinet ministers.According to a report in the Times of India, Home Minister Narasimha Reddy expressed concerns about certain problems including Maoist activities. He also added that the Chief Minister wanted to increase security as they were going to travel throughout the state. This news has received a lot of criticism because, when former chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy claimed that the bifurcation would lead to an increase in Maoists in Telangana, KCR brushed away the claims and stated that the problems would never crop up if the TRS was in powerA total amount of roughly 27 crore is being spent on these new cars for the ministers. The entire convoy of the CM is set to be replaced too, with two bullet-proof Land Cruiser Prado each costing Rs 1.39 crore and five bullet-proof Toyota Fortuner 3.0 4WD each worth Rs 77.56 lakh.Opposition parties also claimed that it was a waste of the taxpayer’s money and the chief minister just wanted an excuse to “gift” bullet proof cars to his ministers.
