A video of two groups attacking each other with chairs and sticks at a wedding is making rounds on social media, with a caption claiming the conflict was over the lunch menu. According to the people circulating the video, the clash broke out between the two sides after the bride’s family served chicken instead of mutton for lunch. However, this is false, confirmed police.

The incident took place in Uppusaka village, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Telangana on February 22. According to Kothagudem police, friends of the groom – all residents of Kothagudem – came to the wedding in an inebriated state, and a scuffle broke out when they went to garland the couple. "When they went on the dias, it couldn't accommodate all of them, and someone from the bride’s side told them to get down. Agitated by this, they picked a fight with them, and this led to a clash between the two groups," said CI of Burgampad, Ramesh.

In the fight, at least 10 people suffered injuries. Besides violence at the wedding venue, the fight continued even at the hospital, where the injured were availing treatment. "Before they quarreled with the relatives of the bride, these accused fought among themselves. In one such instance, when someone from the bride's family tried to intervene, they attacked him," said the SI.

Based on the complaint from the bride's father, Ajmera Bhikya, police have filed a case under  section 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 427 (Mischief causing damage) against the bride's brother and others, who are yet to be identified.

Police are yet to arrest the offenders, “We could only identify the groom’s brother, we don’t know how many others were involved in the violence.”

Speaking to TNM, Kothagudem SP Sunil Dutt said, "The videos of the fight circulating as an issue over mutton are completely false."
