The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued two separate show-cause notices to Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his son and panchayat raj minister K T Rama Rao for violating the election code ahead of the MLC elections for local bodies.

According to a report in the Times of India, the ECI faulted the chief minister for announcing developmental schemes for Khammam district on November 28 when he lured some Congress leaders into his Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) at a function at his camp office in Hyderabad.

KCR also announced development plans for Khammam district mentioning his plan for the integration of Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar. According to the code, the chief minister is not supposed to use his official camp office for political events such as admitting leaders to the party and announcing developmental schemes for the places where polls are meant to be held soon.

The ECI has now asked for an explanation.

This came even as TRS candidate Konda Muralidhar Rao was unanimously elected as the MLC from Warangal after the Congress and TDP chose not to contest and the independent candidates withdrew their nomination.

The official result will be declared on December 12.

The code came into place on November 24 and is applicable till December 30 when the process is scheduled to end.

The ECI also issued a notice to K T Rama Rai for holding a political function at his office in the Secretariat on December 27 when he greeted political defectors and welcomed them into the TRS.
