Cardiac Emergency Resuscitation Stations set up at the Hyderabad airport

Written by : TNM Staff

Seven Cardiac Emergency Resuscitation Stations (ERS) were set up at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport as part of the ‘Passenger is Prime’ programme of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL).

The stations are placed at strategic locations across the Passenger Terminal Building – two at the domestic security hold area, one each at the international security hold area, check-in area, domestic arrivals, international arrivals and the airport village.

This is a necessary move to give primary medical intervention for passengers in case of a sudden cardiac arrest.

According to reports each station has an automated external defibrillator (AED), an emergency bag with intubation, suction and other essential equipment like an oxygen cylinder, first aid kit and a stretcher packed inside a compact cabinet.

According to a press release issued by the GHIAL, “During cardiac emergency, a trained staff can access the ERS box and provide treatment to the patient. Regular trainings are being imparted to the airport community members to operate the Cardiac ERS. As of now, over 100 volunteers from across the stakeholders in the airport have been trained to operate AED and providing CPR in case of any emergency.”

The airport also has a 24 hour medical centre with 17-bed emergency treatment centre which is operated by Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited.

Crash cart with life-saving equipments were introduced earlier near the domestic arrivals baggage conveyor belt.

In March 2018, the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at it’s decennial celebrations.

The airport currently has nine domestic carriers connecting 40 destinations across India, and 15 foreign operators ferrying passengers to 20 international locations.
