Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. This was her first meeting with Modi after taking over as the Governor on September 7.

According to an official release in Hyderabad, the Governor submitted a report to the Prime Minister on various initiatives taken up in Raj Bhavan like implementation of plastic free campaign, organising of yoga classes and a blood donation camp through Indian Red Cross Society.

The Prime Minister appreciated several unique initiatives taken by the Raj Bhavan. In her 40-minute meeting with the Prime Minister, Soundararajan informed him about her participation in several social programmes in the state.

Soundararajan also called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah. She handed over a recent publication on Bathukamma festival to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. The festival was organized for five days at Raj Bhavan with traditional fervour and gaiety.

However, there was more to the meeting than what met the eye, as it came at a time when the state is witnessing an indefinite strike by employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).

Media reports suggest that Tamilisai briefed the Prime Minister and the Home Minister on the strike, which has affected normal life in the state.

Just earlier this week, a delegation of Telangana BJP leaders sought the intervention of Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan in the issue.

A delegation comprising state BJP President K Laxman, N Indrasena Reddy, V Vivek Venkatswamy, P Jithender Reddy, P Chandrasekhar, and several others submitted a memorandum, in which they asked the Governor to instruct the government to withdraw their plans to privatise TSRTC; have talks with the protesting employees; fulfill their demands; bail out debt-ridden TSRTC by releasing Rs 2,000 crore; and pay employee salaries for the month of September.
