The All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) adopted a resolution by calling on Other Backward Classes (OBC) Gen Z students to defeat ‘anti-reservation forces.’ The resolution was adopted at University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Friday, August 7 to coincide with the 200th birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule that was held this year.
Addressing the 7th national convention at UoH’s Savitribhai Phule (DST) auditorium, AIOBSCA national president Dr Gowd Kiran Kumar emphasized that reservation is a constitutional instrument to ensure social justice and equal opportunities, not a charity or concession.
He stated that anti-reservation forces continue to spread misinformation and undermine affirmative action through various means, making it essential for the younger generation, particularly Gen Z students from OBC communities, to understand the history of the social justice movement and actively defend constitutional values.
Students and research scholars from various universities participated in the event and discussed various social justice issues.
Dr Kiran Kumar called upon students and youth to strengthen the movement for caste census, proportionate representation, quality education, and the effective implementation of reservation policies.
The convention concluded with a collective pledge to carry forward the ideals of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and the Mandal Movement.
