The Pahadishareef Police in Hyderabad have arrested 34-year-old MD Sanaullah in connection with the alleged murder and sexual assault of a 21-year-old nurse at a private hospital’s residential quarters in Thukkuguda, Ranga Reddy district. Police said the accused was apprehended on the evening of August 30, within 30 hours of receiving the complaint.
The accused has been charged with offences relating to murder, rape, assault or obstruction of a public servant while performing their duty, and committing an offence against a person belonging to a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe.
The victim, a 21-year-old woman from Khammam district, had come to Hyderabad with a friend and was working as a nurse at Prime Care Hospital in Thukkuguda. She had been working at the private hospital for about eight months and was staying in residential quarters provided by the hospital.
On August 29, her friend informed the victim’s aunt that she had not come out of her room since morning and was not responding to repeated knocks. The room was accessed through a window, where the woman was found dead with injuries.
The victim’s aunt lodged a complaint at around 3.20 pm on August 29, stating that the woman was found lying dead with bleeding injuries on her face. The complainant suspected that an unknown person had assaulted and killed her.
Police initially examined the scene and deployed clues teams and a dog squad to collect evidence. The body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police awaited the autopsy report before commenting on the sexual assault allegation.
Police subsequently identified the accused as MD Sanaullah, a bike mechanic originally from Begusarai district in Bihar. Sanaullah came to Hyderabad in 2023 and worked at mechanic shops in Uppal and Thukkuguda. He was residing at a mechanic shop near the Srisailam Highway in Thukkuguda at the time of the crime.
Police said the accused had allegedly noticed the woman through a rear-side window of the mechanic shop and had been observing her movements. Police allege that he entered the woman’s room through a window during the intervening night of August 28 and 29.
Police further alleged that the woman resisted the assault, following which the accused assaulted and strangulated her before allegedly sexually assaulting her and leaving the room. According to the police press note, the accused allegedly closed the window before leaving the premises.
The accused was traced using technical evidence and specific information developed during the investigation. Pahadishareef Police and the Shamshabad Zonal Task Force apprehended him on August 30, within 30 hours of the complaint.
A Samsung mobile phone and clothes belonging to the accused were seized, police said. The investigation is continuing, with scientific, technical and other corroborative evidence being collected and analysed in accordance with law.
Police said further investigation is underway.
