The mysterious death of a 14-year-old-girl in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district of Telangana has triggered a protest in Bommalaramaram village. Alleging police laxity, locals have been agitating since Friday evening.
According to the police, the girl is a resident of Hajipur, which is four kilometres away from Bommalaramaram. The victim commuted to school every day by an autorickshaw or bus. She would get down at Bommalaramaram and would then take a different bus to reach home. However, on Thursday, after finishing the special class at 11.30 am, she didn’t return home.
On the same evening, parents of the victim approached the police and filed a missing complaint.
The police and locals later searched in the neighbouring areas between Bommalaramaram and Hajipur.
At around 7 pm, the villagers found her schoolbag in an abandoned dried well. Though the police called in the dog squad, they couldn’t trace the girl. Later, the girl’s body was found dumped in an adjacent well.
The police suspect that she could have been sexually assaulted before being murdered. In the vicinity of the body, the police found alcohol bottles. The Clues team of the police collected fingerprint samples from the bottles and gathered other evidence. However, they are yet to identify the culprits.
DCP Narayan Reddy told NTV, “Going by the preliminary inquiry, it is apparent that she could have been sexually assaulted. We are waiting for the forensic report to confirm it.”
He also said that they have zeroed in on some suspects who could have been behind the crime.
However, the police is facing the ire of locals for not being able to identify and detain the culprits yet. Their vehicles were reportedly vandalised.
The residents also protested on the Yadadri Highway, alleging police inaction. Subsequently, DCP Narayan Reddy issued transfer orders to Bommalaramaram Sub Inspector Venkatiah. The SI has been attached to the DGP’s office.
