Three hidden cameras were recovered from a privately owned dress changing room located outside the Rameswaram Temple by the Ramanathapuram district police on Monday, December 23. Two men, including the owner of the establishment, were arrested after a woman devotee spotted the cameras and filed a complaint with the Rameswaram Temple police.
It may be noted that several devotees who visit the Rameswaram temple choose to perform the Teertham ritual which involves bathing from the wells located inside the temple and completing it by taking a dip in the sea. After completing the ritual, they use changing rooms located around the temple to change their clothes.
On Monday, a woman who entered Lakshmi Tea Stall owned changing rooms outside the Agnitheertham beach spotted the spy cameras. She informed her father, who then lodged a police complaint against the establishment. Following her complaint, the Rameswaram Temple police recovered three spy cameras from inside the changing rooms and arrested Rajesh Kannan, the owner of the establishment, and his friend Moideen.
According to initial reports, Ramesh had purchased the cameras online. After placing them inside the rooms several months ago, the two men had been viewing footage from the cameras on their mobile phones. The Rameswaram temple police are investigating the matter.
