A 28-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and gang raped by a two-member gang near Pollachi in Coimbatore district and one accused was held, police said on Monday.

The woman's husband, an auto-driver, had left her in her parents house following a quarrel over her going to work as a construction labourer, police said.

As the woman called her brother Prabhu and asked him to reunite her with the husband, he along with R Vimal alias Vimal Raj and Karthik, also known to the woman, came to her house on Saturday night and convinced her to bring back the husband.

Prabhu, on receiving a call, left the house to meet his brother-in-law, even as Vimalraj and Karthik enacted a drama that the husband was waiting for her and took the victim in an auto to an isolated place.

Both the accused consumed liquor and asked the woman to cooperate to have sex with them. As she refused, they beat her and sexually assaulted, police said.

Later they left her alone. She then called her husband, who rushed to the spot and admitted her in a hospital.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered against the two accused under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous means or weapons), 376 (punishment for rape) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation).

Vimal was nabbed and a manhunt was on for Karthik, police added.
