Written by : TNM Staff

Having open invitation from BJP, DMK and People’s Welfare Front to have an alliance for elections, DMDK chief Vijayakanth is amidst pressure from the party members to have an alliance with DMK for the 2016 elections, reports TOI.

The DMDK will be conducting its general council meeting on Saturday in Perambur to discuss poll strategies and allow party members to suggest their preference for the alliance. More than 1800 party members will be attending the council meeting which would last for about three hours. After the party members speak, Vijayakanth is supposed to take a final call.

DMDK had got a vote share of 8% in 2011 assembly elections. All the three parties are sought after DMDK to strengthen their alliance for the polls.  Sources told TOI that majority of the party members want an alliance with DMK to defeat AIADMK in the elections.  “Our leader should realise that teaming up with DMK and being part of a strong alliance could help defeat AIADMK. This is the widespread expectation among workers within DMDK,“ told a senior DMDK leader to TOI.
