Veerappan's death anniversary feast allowed, says HC

The News Minute| October 18, 2014| 08.45 am ISTThe Madras High Court has granted permission to Muthulakshmi, Veerappan’s wife to conduct a community feast on his 10th death anniversary in Salem after initial objections to it from police.Police had initially rejected permission for the feast to be held in the forest brigand’s memory on grounds that some political parties with ‘fringe ideologies’ could be a part of it, reported Times of India. Veerappan, shot dead in an ‘encounter’ was quite famous for the poaching of over 200 elephants, and was responsible for the felling of hundreds of sandalwood trees, said the report.
